That little crocodile
When it comes to clothes, I’m a girl that sticks to the classics. What’s more classic than a foreign heritage luxury brand like Lacoste? M initiated me into the world of the classic basic when she bought me a Lacoste polo for Christmas in high school. I thought I was so cool (and her too for getting it for me). Oh, brand-lusty teenage me. But where does that little trademark croc come from that made my teen self (and admittedly grown self) feel so chic? I knew that its roots are in tennis because of its namesake, René Lacoste, but the other day I happened upon this write-up in Fortune magazine that revealed the quirky circumstances that brought about the iconic emblem. We love digging up tidbits like this, which is why we have the “origins & inspiration” tab in the first place. We’re little sleuths! Must’ve been all that Nancy Drew we read growing up.
