All the right ingredients

Ask anyone and they will tell you that I love food and I absolutely love to cook. This should not necessarily be mistaken with being a good cook as sometimes I am successful and sometimes very much not. I think all of my friends have experienced both my epic successes and epic failures. One thing is for sure… I don’t mind experimenting. I love trying new foods and also don’t shy away from attempting to prepare them. Whether it be Turkish lamb, random root vegetables or my usual variety of salads I’m all about trying it out and mix ‘n’ matching. I have also come to find that if you start with some quality basics in your arsenal then it makes the likeliness of failure substantially reduced. Here are a couple staples that I now cannot live without.

1. San Marzano Canned Tomatoes – the perfect base for any sauce or chili
2. San Marzano Tomato Paste – cheaters way to some serious tomato flavor
3. Colavita Olive Oil – delicious flavor for dipping… little pricey for cooking
4. Stonewall Kitchen Roasted Garlic and Onion Jam – my secret of choice…. so good to sauté veggies in
5. Rice Select Orzo – really sturdy pasta that holds up well when baked or mixed with sauces
6. Montrachet Goat Cheese – this chevre is great to serve with wine, crumble into salads and melts down really smoothly in sauces while maintaining its tangy flavor
7. The Farmer’s Cow Fresh Milk – local is best, especially for dairy. Support Connecticut farmers for everything from your morning cereal to making home made yogurt
8. Smjör Icelandic Butter – just plain delicious
9. Rao’s Marinara Sauce – Harlem’s finest brings us a delicious, fresh sauce that hasn’t traveled far to be enjoyed
10. Whole Foods Butcher Counter Pork Italian Sausage in a Pork Casing – let’s be honest… pork makes everything better…
