The gift of Bacchus

Giving wine as a gift, or any kind of alcohol for that matter, is both challenging and amazingly simple. One thinks, “Oh so easy I’ll just bring a bottle of wine.” Then one is faced with the decision of “Wait what should I pick?” Now I have a whole lineup of bottles in the $8 – $13 range that are my personal go-to’s. But one doesn’t give those as gifts. That’s like giving a gift that says, “Here you go… hope you can get as drunk on Friday night as I do.” No, no a gifted wine needs to be chosen by the actual quality of the wine, the presentation of the bottle (I mean you can’t give a bottle with an ugly label) and the price range. The price range is actually key because your choice can’t be either too expensive or too cheap. Here are a couple goodies…

1. Francis Coppola Claret
2. Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc
3. Liberty School Cabernet Sauvignon
4. Louis Jadot Santenay
5. Molly Dooker Shiraz/Merlot/Cabernet Blend
