It’s a man’s world
Thanks to YSL’s Le Smoking in ’66 and Diane Keaton’s schoolboy style as Annie Hall in ’77, menswear is now mainstream womenswear — it figures into almost every outfit I put on and I don’t really notice a difference. Today though, as I was walking to work, I felt distinctly manly, but not in a butch kind of way. The lyrics to the song “It’s a Man’s Man’s World” kept coming to mind, maybe because it was on Smash the other week. My blazer, button down shirt, tassel loafers oddly felt kind of hot though there was barely any skin showing. As my insightful friend Chloe said, “I love androgyny because I think it’s super effeminate.” Hear, hear.
